The high school program at Columbia Basin Job Corps has been and continues to be a great success. Since June, 2003 when we graduated our first student we have issued over 200 high school diplomas to students. Our high school is operated by Wellpinit School District. We look forward to guiding students through their unique educational journey.

The educational tool for Columbia Basin Alliance High School is NovaNET. It is an on-line education program allowing teachers and students to work together to form an individualized learning environment. The broad spectrum of courses offered reach from basic skills to post secondary. With a commitment to student success, Columbia Basin Alliance High School strives to deliver a confident, independent, problem solver, with the skills to meet today’s challenges.
The high school program instructors are employees of Wellpinit school district in cooperation with Columbia Basin Job Corps.

The Columbia Basin Job Corps GED Program:

The Columbia Basin Job Corps Education Department is focused on providing every student with the opportunity to earn his/her GED. After completing remedial work in subject areas that need improvement, students then focus on preparing to take the five GED subject tests. The subject area tests are: Math, Reading, Writing, Science and Social Studies. When a student is ready to take the Official GED Tests, they are scheduled to go to Big Bend Community College for each test. After completing each of the five tests within the national guidelines, a student receives his/her GED.

The Education department, recognizing that students have different learning styles, employs a variety of challenging materials in different formats for students. Traditional book work is used for student review of prior knowledge and for introducing new material. Recently, a curriculum update allowed us to include a video curriculum, which is very exciting, as students use headphones without wires, thus allowing students to be on a variety of topics at the same time without interfering with each other. We also have a new computer curriculum which will enable us to reach even more learning styles and needs than we do now. Students work hard to attain their GED’s, and these new programs will help to make them more successful.

The GED program is instructed by center staff. Between January 1, 2006 and Dec 31, 2006, 70 students have completed their GED’s while at Columbia Basin Job Corps. Since January 2004 a total of 227 GEDs were awarded. Beyond the actual GED completers, many students have passed individual subject area tests and are currently in the process of completing their GEDs.

The Columbia Basin Job Corps College Program:

A limited number of students are accepted into the college program each year. Once they have met the eligibility criteria, they are enrolled at Big Bend Community College to persue an associate degree in their program of choice.
