Students in the Plastering Trade learn such things as the proper use of hand tools and equipment, safety and first aid training, identifying the three basic kinds of plaster: the materials needed to make the different kinds of plaster, the formula proportions for mixing each kind, and the advantages and limitations of each kind of plaster. Students will also learn interior and exterior plastering techniques, how to create specific textures and finishes, and working with drywall and scaffolding.
Students in the Plastering Trade will also spend much of their time on work-based learning projects throughout the Columbia Basin —“hands-on training” is a great way to learn! A graduating student will have all the skills necessary to compete as a First Period Apprentice in the International Union of Plasters and Cement Masons Union.
Starting wages for First Period Apprentices range from $10-$14/hour, depending where students relocate. Upon completion of the trade at Columbia Basin Job Corps, students have direct entry into the International Union of Plasters and Cement Masons Apprenticeship Program. Students get direct entry into the union apprenticeship program when they have their GED or high school diploma and have completed their trade at Job Corps. Graduating students can be placed anywhere in the United States! And finally, graduating students will leave with all the necessary tools for their trade, worth approximately $200.
