Students in the Pharmacy Technician Trade learn such things as:
proper procedures for working with customers—safeguarding confidentiality, working with special needs customers and non-English speaking or impaired customers;
proper procedure in working with doctors’ offices and insurance providers;
understanding pharmaceutical terminology;
knowledge of the various systems of the body (i.e. renal system, circulatory system, etc.) and how the various drugs relate to them;
how to do calculations and measurements as it pertains to pharmacy;
how to compound;
how to use pharmacy software programs;
understanding the prescription process through payment/billing and inventory management.
Students in the Pharmacy Technician Trade will:
participate in 160 clinical hours at local healthcare sites.
take 106 tests to complete their trade.
leave the program knowing 65 drug names, both brand name and generic, their classifications, and the diseases those drugs treat.
