Cement Masonry Students preparing concrete forms - This photo provided by courtesy of Job Corps center operators under contract to the US Department of Labor.Students in the Cement Mason Trade learn such things as preparing the subgrade, using proper procedures, tools, and reinforcements; proper safety procedures, care and skill in using all tools and equipment associated with the trade; fundamental theory in cement masonry, blueprint reading, finishing techniques, edging, jointing, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. Students will also learn sealing, patching, and repairing techniques. Students in the Cement Mason Trade will also spend much of their time on work-based learning projects throughout the Columbia Basin —“hands-on training” is a great way to learn!
 
Job Information 
  • A graduating student will have all the skills necessary to compete as a First Period Apprentice in the International Union of Plasters and Cement Masons Union.
  • Starting wages for First Period Apprentices range from $14-$17/hour, depending where students relocate.
  • Upon completion of the trade at Columbia Basin Job Corps, students have direct entry into the International Union of Plasters and Cement Masons Apprenticeship Program. Students get direct entry into the union apprenticeship program when they have their GED or high school diploma and have completed their trade at Job Corps.
  • Graduating students can be placed anywhere in the United States!
  • And finally, graduating students will leave with all the necessary tools for their trade, worth approximately $500.
